In 1975, a particularly powerful version of the Porsche 911 – the 911 Turbo – was introduced to the market. Since then, it has been the flagship model in the 911 model line. The 930 featured wider rear fenders, providing an additional 12 cm in width. Black stone guard film was applied in front of the rear wheel arches. The rear lid had a distinctive rear wing with a wide black hard rubber border. Until 1977, the rear lid was made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. From 1978, the lid was made of sheet metal and the fixed plastic rear wing for mounting the charge-air cooler was made much larger. The Turbo also received an exhaust system with twin tailpipes. Exhaust gases only exited through the left pipe when the boost-pressure control valve of the turbocharger was open. From model year 1987, the Turbo model was also available in Targa and Cabriolet body styles. The power for models from 1978-1989 with 3.3 liters was 300 hp from the factory.
