Porsche 993 Turbo WLS 1

A Werksleistungssteigerung (“factory performance increase”) option package, “WLS 1” for short, used remapped engine management software and higher boost pressure to achieve 424 brake horsepower. Those and other upgrades would come standard on the 911 Turbo S launched for the 1997 model year. A subsequent “WLS 2” package took things even further, employing larger KKK K24 turbochargers to boost output to 444 brake horsepower, on par with the 911 GT2.

The 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo offered here features the rare and highly desirable WLS 2 upgrade. With a production date of 19 March 1996, it was sold to its first owner at Porsche Center Limburg in Germany. The same dealer would then sell the car to its next owner, a resident of Weilburg, Germany, in November of 1997. Service invoices on file indicate that in late 1999, the second owner would commission Porsche Center of Limburg to perform the WLS 2 upgrade at a cost of nearly 20,000 Deutsche Marks. This same owner would go on to enjoy the car for 18 years, until it joined The Carrera Collection in 2015.

To this day, the car wears its factory-correct color combination of Black Metallic over Black Leather and rides on correct, hollow-spoke wheels. It came well equipped from the factory with optional heated front seats with lumbar support, Becker Porsche CR-31 stereo with cassette player, Becker Porsche CDC-3 six-disc CD changer, Nokia DSP audio system, cruise control, sunroof, raised brake light, and Motorola international 2200 GSM telephone.

Sparingly driven under the past eight years of ownership and well-documented with numerous service invoices, stamped maintenance booklet, and German inspection reports, this exceptional Turbo 911 Coupé clearly has been well cared for throughout its entire life. The odometer reads 77,446 kilometers at the time of cataloguing. With fewer than 6,000 type-993 911 Turbo coupés produced from 1996 to 1998, it is rare to begin with; having been upgraded with the factory WLS 2 package makes it exceedingly so and among the most coveted of all air-cooled Porsche 911s.
