Launched in 1999, the Porsche 996 GT3 marked the debut of the now-iconic GT3 nameplate — a track-focused, road-legal 911 developed to homologate the model for the GT3 Cup racing series.
At its heart lies the legendary 3.6-litre “Mezger” flat-six engine, derived from the Le Mans–winning GT1, producing 360 hp and mated to a 6-speed manual transmission (G96/90) — a gearbox also used, in modified form, in the 911 GT1. This robust drivetrain, combined with a lightweight chassis, revised suspension, and race-inspired brakes, resulted in a car that delivered pure, unfiltered driver engagement.
