The 996 Turbo was a major milestone in the 911 lineage — the first Turbo model to feature water-cooling, and the first to pair supercar-level performance with everyday usability. Powered by a Mezger-designed 3.6L flat-six derived from the GT1 Le Mans program, the 996 Turbo produced 415 hp and delivered a 0–60 time under four seconds with all-wheel drive, a 6-speed manual, and near-bulletproof reliability.

Unlike previous Turbos, the 996 could be driven daily without compromise, yet it still offered raw engagement and analog charm that has since vanished from newer generations. Today, it represents one of the best value propositions in the modern Porsche world — a Mezger engine, manual transmission, and timeless styling in a package that remains highly usable and collectable.
