The engine for the Turbo Gen II gained direct fuel injection from 2009 onwards which improved performance. The difference between the two lies in the region where the air-fuel mixture is formed. While air and fuel are mixed before the inlet valves in the manifold fuel injection, direct fuel injection ensures that the fuel gets injected directly to the cylinder. With the enlarged capacity of 3,800 cm³, the Stuttgart engineers raised the power output of the 997 Turbo Gen II up to 500 bhp at 6,000 rpm. Maximum torque was offered in the same rev range, as in the 997 Gen I but rose to 620 Nm without the overboost and up to 700 Nm with the overboost.  0-62 mph acceleration is achieved in just 3.5 seconds and top speed is 195 miles per hour where permissible.

Our car has Porsche’s delightful 7-speed PDK gearbox, and the Sport Chrono Plus package for more spirited throttle, damper and stability control settings at the press of a button. Other developments included the latest 911 Turbo’s four-wheel drive hardware and PTV, or Porsche Torque Vectoring, which varied the drive to each individual rear wheel for more neutral cornering and spectacular traction. Despite its phenomenal performance, it is also an easy car to drive in all conditions; open air driving becomes an absolute pleasure.
