In 1996, mid-way through 993 Carrera production, Porsche introduced a new model called the Carrera 4S. It was a unique combination of bits from the Carrera 4, with the brakes and rear flares from the Turbo and an updated front end. This Carrera 4S was only built for two model years but quickly gained a following as one of the most desirable cars in the Porsche lineup. The Carrera 4S was sold for just a few years again with the 996 and became a staple model with the introduction of the 997. Like its predecessors, the rear bodywork was 3.5” wider than a standard Carrera, and the suspension was lower, giving the car a more aggressive appearance. The all-wheel-drive system is set up for rear-wheel bias unless the extra power up front is called for, with only 5% of the power in everyday driving going to the front wheels.

This 2007 911 Carrera 4S is a beautiful example finished in Basalt Black Metallic Over a Stone Gray leather interior. Under the care of just one owner from new, this Carrera 4S is in excellent condition throughout and shows 73,600 km on the odometer. Purchased from Porsche Center Verona, the car has been routinely serviced in their service department and has a booklet full of service stamps to show for it. The exterior of the 997 Carrera 4S does exhibit a few notable special features beyond the wide rear bodywork- namely the 19” “Lobster Claw” wheels, which on this car are wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires, and a set of Bi-Xenon headlamps that were standard on all 4S cars.

The interior is finished in Stone Gray leather and was optioned with adaptive sport seats up front. These seats offer numerous areas of adjustability and are both well bolstered for mountain driving and plenty comfortable for longer trips and are also equipped with three memory settings for different drivers.

In the center console sits a PCM with both navigation and telephone capabilities, and a remote 6-CD changer sits in the front boot. Overall the condition of the interior is very good, with next to no bolster wear on the seats and floor mats that look almost new.

Powering the Carrera 4S is a 3.8 liter M97 flat-6 that produces 355 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This is connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox fitted with the sport shifter in this car for a more direct shift feel. The extra grip from the all-wheel drive is amplified with the addition of Porsche Active Suspension Management which, with its dynamic damper control, can react almost instantaneously to changes in road conditions and allows the driver to switch between comfort and sport damper settings, optimizing the car for road conditions. To make the car even more exciting, the Sound Package Plus opens up the intake and exhaust to give this 911 a bit more noise when you are pressing on.

As far as usable sports cars go, it’s hard to do better than a 997 Carrera 4S- its sporty driving dynamics and capable all-wheel-drive system mean you can enjoy your fun car regardless of the weather or road conditions. This example, with its great color combination and single ownership from new, will make a great addition to any garage and will surely put a smile on any driver’s face when they’re behind the wheel.
