For many enthusiasts, the 997-generation 911 was a return to form for Porsche after the divisive 996. First introduced in 2005, Porsche was quick to introduce a plethora of variants offering increased performance and/or luxury. For those interested in a track car they could realistically daily drive, Porsche once again offered a GT3 model (a hard-core GT3 RS was also available in limited quantities, though that car is far less livable than the « standard » GT3).

In 2009, the 997 was facelifted, with the entire range featuring updates intended to enhance the already phenomenal driving experience. For the GT3, this meant a 20hp increase to 435hp thanks to a new dual-VarioCam setup (in comparison to the previous single-VarioCam unit) along with a new track-tuned version of PSM, Porsche’s traction/stability control system. Updated styling and lighter wheels offered further set the « 997.2 » GT3 apart from its predecessor. Today, these cars are considered some of the last of the « analogue » GT3s, as newer examples typically come equipped with a PDK transmission and many more electrical nannies.
