Autoart: Paul Stephens started specialising in Porsche in 1994, and as the company approached its tenth anniversary, he was developing his own series of bespoke cars based on the Porsche 911. Officially launched at Brands Hatch in 2005 under the PS Autoart brand, the first model was called the Retro Touring and based on the Porsche 964 platform.

The Retro Touring has a simple recipe – combine the elegance of the 70s classics, the performance of the 90s and features that include ABS, PAS, 2WD or 4WD, the choice of manual or Tiptronic gearbox and you probably have one of the most enjoyable cars you will ever own.

History

This example was created in 2008 for a client who wanted that classic style but with a modern driveline and features to use in London. A 964 Tiptronic donor car was chosen and rebuilt before being converted into Retro Touring specification. This included electric windows, sunroof and mirrors, power steering and seats, trip computer, power steering, ABS and the switchable Tiptronic gearbox.

Engine

Power was provided by a 3.6 250BHP flat-six air-cooled engine which propelled it to 60mph in 6.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 160mph.

Upgrades

In 2016 when purchased by the next owner, it was requested that the colour was changed to slate grey and the interior retrimmed in full poppy red leather, the combination it wears today. In 2018, a further £34,000 enhancement took place including the fitment of air conditioning, new series two alloy wheels, top-end engine rebuild, refurbished suspension and brakes, series two aluminium rear grill and series 2 LED lighting.

Final Words

This Retro Touring is an easy car to drive in town and still has the performance to impress on the open road whilst retaining the simple classic lines of a 70s original. Immaculate throughout and available for immediate enjoyment.
