Produced between 1974 and 1989, the G-Body 911 is one of the most recognizable variants of the famed Porsche sports car and, without a doubt, one of the best to drive. Built between 1974 and 1989, the G-Body 911s came in numerous variants, with the most refined version, the Carrera, built between 1984 and 1989. Powered by a 3.2-liter Flat-6, the Carrera is regarded for its unfiltered driving experience, exceptional durability, and practicality. This 1984 Porsche 911 Targa is finished in Guards Red over Black and has been well maintained and carefully modified to ensure maximum driving enjoyment every time you get behind the wheel. The car presents well but is in what would be considered “driver” condition- a repaint from the early 2000s is still very shiny but does show some bubbling and minor areas of lifting, along with some visible tape lines. That being said, the Targa top has recently been rebuilt, European front and rear lights have been installed, and the car sits on a set of 7” front and 8” rear Fuchs, giving an overall very put-together appearance. If you are looking for a 911 Targa to get out and drive and aren’t concerned about your local PCA Concours, this car is for you.

On the inside, the seats, dash, and door cards are covered in black leather, and a set of non-original but period-correct Porsche sport seats have been installed. The original Blaupunkt stereo with a cassette player is still in place, and although air conditioning is installed, it is currently not operable. The leather on the dashboard is shrinking some, and the seams along the front edge are separating. A few of the performance upgrades noticeable on the interior are a set of Targa reinforcement bars that help add rigidity to the chassis and an aftermarket short shifter that offers improved shift action to the 915 gearbox.

What makes this car a real standout is what is going on underneath the car. The 3.2-liter flat-6 benefits from a top-end rebuild, and the 915 gearbox has been rebuilt with a fresh clutch installed all around 2008. SSI heat exchangers and a Dansk muffler were installed to make the engine breathe better, and a Steve Wong chip for Carreras with these modifications is installed to maximize performance potential. The suspension was recently rebuilt using street-oriented bushings from Elephant Racing, and 930 tie rods and a strut tower brace have also been installed. When you get behind the wheel of this 911 Targa, everything feels right- the extensive file of receipts dating back to 1986 tells the story of the three owners who loved this car and were happy to spend whatever it took to make it drive as well as it could.

All of the care lavished on this car throughout its life makes for a truly exceptional driving experience that would be expensive and time-consuming to replicate.
