With lots of ‚Z‘ order options, the interior would have been an expensive choice back in the day. A two-tone mix of champagne and brown leather, with piping for the seats and brown carpets. It seems the original request for this special interior was accompanied by a sketch, detailing exactly how the colours should be laid out within the cabin, as it differed from the ’norm‘. It is unlikely that you will ever find another 928 interior the same…. It’s all in really good order with no warping to the dashboard or rear central cubby box.
The specification on this particular 928 includes ‚M020‘ Limited Slip Diff, 4 speed automatic transmission with shorter gear ratios, larger, four piston brake calipers, ABS, revised suspension, 21mm rear wheel spacers, impact absorbing bumpers, sunroof, alarm system and High Fidelity Sound Package with additional amp. The original Blaupunkt Bremen radio cassette player has been updated to a modern Kenwood unit with Bluetooth phone connection, DAB radio, with USB and AUX inputs, compatible with iPod, MP3 etc.
Complete with original book pack and driver’s manual, the service book has 16 stamps. There is an accompanying folder of invoices with reference to regular cambelt changes (the most recent less than 500 miles ago), regular maintenance, plus MOT certificates.
When Porsche launched the 928 back in 1977, it was a technical revelation. With radical aerodynamic styling, wraparound moulded bumpers plus aluminium bonnet and doors and a host of engineering advancements, it’s not surprising it was voted ‚European Car of the Year‘ for 1978.
The super-smooth, mile-munching grand tourer was so advanced that production continued for a further 17 years, with very few changes to the original concept.
In our opinion, it’s a Condition Group 3 classic, ready to use and turn some heads. In today’s world of non-descript, motorized clones, take a stand and drive a 928!
