The Porsche 928 GT offered here is a one-of-one showcase of the greatest 1980s car design. Ordered new by the consigning owner in 1989, the vendor customised the car with the Porsche Exclusive department. The car’s factory codes (09981 and 09991) confirm the involvement of the Stuttgart marque’s “Sonderwunsch”, or special wishes team, while the “XA2” option signifies covered pop-up headlights—doing away with the circular and exposed rising lamps of the standard 928. Other desirable features include “XB2” for wider body skirts and “XC1” for wider rear wheel arches, further to the fitment of deep-dish wheel spacers and aerodynamically improved wing mirrors. Importantly, the “639” option code outlines this car’s configuration as a 928 GT, benefitting from greater equipment and improved performance over the 928 S4.
Remarkably, the Porsche has remained with its first and only owner from new. In the care of its long-term keeper, the 928 GT has been regularly maintained by Porsche service centres and specialist workshops, as verified by an accompanying service book and other invoices in its impressive history file. At the time of cataloguing the odometer read 56,636 kilometres, though this is believed to be higher than stated due to the replacement of the original odometer unit in 2003, performed by Posche Center Saarland. Documentation on file verifies that at the time of replacement, the original unit had recorded no more than 11,500 kilometres. In August 2023, the 928 GT featured in a six-page Porsche Fahrer feature, outlining the unique and special qualities of this rare car.
