If the so-called „PMA“ Porsches – Porsche with front engine – have often suffered unfairly from the comparison with the great 911 and its rear overhang engine, time has given back to the 944, 924, 968, 928 their letters of nobility. It is the latter, also called the „Muscle Car“ of Stuttgart, which has experienced a revival of interest amply justified. Because this car, in addition to being one of the most characteristic Porsches aesthetically speaking, is often defined as one of the best Porsches ever produced.
The 928 was born from an idea that might seem unrealistic today: that of replacing the 911, abandoned by the Stuttgart firm in the 70s. With this in mind, Porsche developed a GT with a front engine, equipped with a V8, first 4.5 liters then 4.7 liters (928 S). The latter will even go up to 5.4 liters for the latest 928 GTS. If you’re surprised that Porsche was able to produce a V8 before 2000, understand that it was intended for the American market – the most important market for the firm at the time. Make no mistake: the 928 is a true „Muscle Car“ in German style. Hard to imagine? The result is impressive. If it will not reach its original goal, this parenthesis that represents the 928 in the entire production has turned into a real must, a reference in the field. Don’t look for the vivacity of the four-cylinder „PMA“. The 928 is a GT, far from the sportiness of a 944. Comfort and power are the watchwords aboard this unique looking vessel. A light touch on the right pedal and you’ll be quickly – very quickly – propelled to over 150 km/h. The 928 is a missile, beware of speeding. But taming it on winding roads is another story. Designed for long trips on the Autobahn, the 928 boasts exemplary comfort, a rare feeling, that of being comfortably installed in a Chesterfield by the fire at over 200 km/h. Despite its size, the two rear „seats“ can accommodate two „real“ humans (which is not always the case for this kind of car…), provided that they are not taller than 1m80. You can’t have everything, but at least your guests will be able to enjoy two rear sunshades – something unique in the world car production.
The 928 was produced from 1977 to 1995, an impressive longevity for a car that „failed“ to do its job. In truth, the 928 did much better. If it could not replace the mythical 911, it offered Porsche new perspectives. The 928 is a UFO. It’s hard to find a car that can match it. Especially since with the different versions and evolutions, everyone will find his account!

The interior – of the most beautiful effect – is very well preserved as well as the exterior is flawless. Never restored, this 928 S is a rare opportunity to acquire a mythical car, apart from the production of its manufacturer and with a constantly rising price, in a unique configuration, and moreover with a manual gearbox!
The Porsche 928 S is a real road car. If it is nicknamed the Porsche Muscle Car, it is for a good reason. The 928 S will get you where you want to go quickly and comfortably. But beware of winding roads: the 928 S is not a sports car.
Maintenance
Our Porsche 928 S is in perfect mechanical health. Certainly stopped for a few years, it underwent a very big revision in 2011, 2012 and 2013. The mechanical part has been completely redone, preceding a regular maintenance until today. Other expenses have been done, among them: the steering, the exhaust or the front headlights. The gearbox has also been revised in 2021 and the engine sealing has also been revised.
History
Our 928 S is a third hand. The first owner sold the car in 2011, which is when the current history of the car begins. The car first underwent a major overhaul upon being purchased by the second owner before being sold in 2017. A thick file of Porsche and other invoices is available with the car.
