Das Fahrzeug im Detail

This 1992 Carrera 2 Cabriolet was destined for the US-market and finished in L80K Guards Red paintwork with a Black partial leather interior and Black soft top. Optional amenities fitted at the factory include a full power driver’s seat, cruise control, and technic package. According to the accompanying Carfax vehicle history report, the Porsche was registered to its first owner in Carmel, Indiana in July 1992, accumulating just over 9,000 miles during their two years of ownership.

The car then joined its second owner in Dayton, Ohio in 1994, who enjoyed it for the better part of the last three decades. Acquired by the consignor in 2022, the Cabriolet displays 51,430 miles with its factory Guards Red paintwork believed to be the original finish applied at the factory. This manual-transmission Carrera 2 Cabriolet is primed for many more miles of open-air motoring thanks to GMP Performance of South Atlanta, Georgia, who conducted a mechanical inspection and service in preparation for the sale.

The long-awaited successor to the “G-Series” Porsche 911 debuted in 1989 wearing form-fitting body-color bumpers and introducing all-wheel drive in Carrera 4 form. Once overlooked in the collector market for its familiar shape, the Type 964 911 is now properly recognized as a significant development of the air-cooled, rear-engined platform which would come to an end with the succeeding 993-generation just a few years later. The 3.6-liter flat-six’s smooth and steady power delivery was said to be more predictable than its predecessor, producing 247-horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque.

By 1990 the new 911 was widely available in Coupe, Targa, or Cabriolet body styles, with the rear-wheel drive Carrera 2 cited by reviewers as the more engaging version of the 964, as it lacked the Carrera 4’s heavy four-wheel-drive system. All models were equipped with standard anti-lock brakes, dual front airbags, a dual-mass flywheel, and variable-assist power steering, adding to the improved refinement of the new 911. Today, the 964 is coveted for its refined ride and handling, thanks to coil springs and shocks at the rear, as well as its enhanced cabin comforts, including height-adjustable leather seats and a full-length center console.
