With an otherworldly 9,000 rpm flat-6, excellent styling, and a chassis that could out-handle almost anything on the road, Porsche assumed a PDK would be the desirable choice given the gearbox’s ability to handle track driving easily. But Porsche listened to the 3-pedal enthusiasts and, for the 991.2 generation, began offering the GT3 once again with a manual. It was also at this time that Porsche decided to expand the GT3 lineup to include a “Touring” model- essentially the same as a GT3 underneath, the Touring was a more low-key car that eschewed the massive fixed rear wing that had become a GT3 hallmark, and in its place, put a smaller power actuated wing like what would have been found in a standard 911 Carrera.
This 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring is finished in Chalk over a black leather/cloth interior. The chosen specification on this car is terrific in its subtlety but does show some signs of its true performance if you look closely. A set of deviated gray racing stripes over the top of the car add a racing flare to the exterior without being shouty about it, and behind the black satin wheels sits a set of bright red brake calipers, which give a nice dash of color.
Comfort sports seats have been selected on the interior, which is a wonderful choice for the Touring package specified on this car. With black leather on the outside, the seat inners are fitted with a black textured cloth that keeps the temperature pleasant in all weather conditions and holds the occupants in place. Additionally, throughout the interior, red stitching is present on all the leather- extending from the seats onto the shift boot, center console lid, door cards, and steering wheel.
Powering the GT3 Touring is Porsche’s legendary 4.0-liter Flat-6, which produces 493 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque while revving all the way to 9,000 rpm. What makes this engine so unique is that not only will it spin at 9,000 rpm all day, but it is also wonderfully torquey and responsive in the lower revs, making it just as happy running around town as it is out on the track. This example is paired with Porsche’s sublime 6-speed manual transmission, which offers some of the best shift feel available at any price and is a joy to use.
This 911 GT3 Touring is offered with a complete set of books and manuals with stamps from Porsche Center Brescia up to its most recent service. Some road cars will go down forever in Porsche’s history books as the company’s best work- without a doubt, the 991 GT3 Touring will be on that list. Even with the new GT3 Touring on sale today, many who have driven both still gravitate toward the 991.2 generation as a real best-of-both-worlds car that Porsche will likely never better.
