The Porsche Boxster is a two-seater roadster (convertible) with 6-cylinder boxer mid-engine and rear-wheel drive. The name “Boxster” is a combination of the words boxer and roadster. The Boxster has style characteristics of the Porsche 550 from 1956.
The first generation Porsche Boxster (version number 986) came on the market in August 1996. With this model Porsche, in contrast to the Porsche 928, 924, 944 and 968, wanted to return to the 911 tradition with 6-cylinder boxer engines and rear-wheel drive.
