He probably only drove the car for a short time, if at all. Following delivery, he left the car to his friend and partner at Solar Productions - the actor Stu Nisbet - who drove the Targa from 1971 to 1995.
We therefore have the complete, unbroken documentation on the origin, maintenance and mileage. One must never forget with such things - more than 5 decades have passed in the meantime. Most of the contemporary witnesses have either unfortunately passed away or at best vaguely remember such details, but unfortunately most of them no longer remember them at all.
The original US title with Steve McQueen as the owner was available until the 1990s and was glued to the inside of the rear targa window at a presentation by Stimming in order to prove and document the origin of the vehicle beyond the documents still available. Unfortunately, a trophy hunter stole this supporting document for his private collection... We failed in several attempts to obtain a duplicate from the official authorities. Understandable - if you consider that there are more than 50 years in between and that archives of this kind also have their limits.
In terms of both its condition and its provenance, this particular Targa 2.2E is therefore a true collector's item that should find a worthy place in a serious collection. Although the vehicle has been regularly serviced and driven over the last 30 years or so, it has covered barely 5,000 km during these three decades. We have been looking after the vehicle ourselves for around 18 years and know it inside out.
If you are interested, please make an appointment to view the vehicle in person and talk to us in detail.
