The Porsche Boxster (code 986) was fundamental for PORSCHE, having deserted the catalog after many years of service, the 968 and the 928. Only the 911 (993) remains to make volume and therefore cash. The release of the 986 Boxster proved to be strategic: it was a question of winning back hearts, expanding the customer base, relaunching a broken-down car. We often forget it, but in the mid-90s, Porsche was not yet what it is today!
In 1996, before the new 911 (996), Porsche’s new “Baby” was presented, where everyone expected an air-cooled flat-6, and here the Boxster inaugurated water-cooling! A crime for Porsche fans! And yet… how well it works!
