The 356 model was the first production car to carry the Porsche name. Production began in 1948, with the first cars built with aluminum bodies in Austria, although production later moved to Germany after Porsche contracted Reutter Coachworks to build the 356 bodies. By 1951, the 356 had already won its class at Le Mans.
