VEHICLE HISTORY
The vehicle was originally delivered to the USA and has been in Europe since the 1990s. From 2000 onwards, it was looked after by a renowned Porsche specialist in Husum (northern Germany). In 2009, it underwent its first extensive overhaul, before being completely restored in 2017 on a very good basis. In 2018, the engine (engine code 616/36, from 356C/912, not the original 616/7 engine) was comprehensively overhauled, including the crankshaft housing, pistons, cylinders, camshaft, and cylinder heads. In addition, the connecting rods were lightened, the flywheel and clutch were optimized, and 40 Weber carburetors with sports air filters were installed. Since 2018, this vehicle has been part of a larger Porsche collection in Germany.
MODEL HISTORY
The Porsche 356B T6 Super 90 was produced between 1962 and 1963 and marks one of the last stages of development of the 356. In the T6 body version, the model received numerous technical and visual improvements, including a redesigned front with larger front hood openings, a two-piece hood grille, and an enlarged trunk. The coupé body, manufactured by Karmann, is considered particularly solid and was produced in comparatively small numbers. The Super 90 was the sportiest version of the 356B with 90 hp engine power.
A factory-fitted steel sunroof was one of the rarest equipment options for this model and was only ordered for a very small proportion of the production run – estimates suggest significantly less than ten percent of all Karmann coupés. Vehicles with original sunroofs are therefore particularly sought after today and extremely interesting for collectors.
