Since the arrival of Cayman in 2006, many enthusiasts have boasted about the excellent driving dynamics delivered from the mid-engine, two-seater Porsche coupe. Despite the impressive performance, enthusiasts have long suspected that Porsche would restrict the Cayman’s ultimate performance as to never outshine the 911. That would change around 2015 when Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche’s GT department, was tempted by Porsche R&D chief Wolfgang Hat into figuring out how to fit a GT3 engine into that already impressive Cayman GT4.
