Porsche 911 Backdate

Targa, 1984

Highlights

  • L999/ Paint-To-Sample Iris Blue
  • $160k in Restoration Receipts
  • Engine/Transmission/Interior Overhauled

This 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa was factory finished in special order Paint to Sample Iris Blue Metallic and is accompanied by a comprehensive binder documenting over 35 years of ownership and service history. Over $160,000 has been invested in its mechanical restoration, cosmetic refurbishment, and bespoke backdate conversion, resulting in a highly sorted and thoughtfully executed example. Beginning in 2018, the previous owner commissioned an extensive glass out restoration and backdate process, with over $45,000 invested in paint and bodywork alone. The coachwork was refinished in its original Paint to Sample Iris Blue Metallic and fitted with period correct backdate components.

The vehicle in detail

The interior was completely recommissioned in July 2025 by the award winning craftsmen at Sonderwerks in Cornelius, North Carolina, featuring a fully bespoke Espresso and Cognac leather interior with custom tartan inserts, square weave carpeting, and carefully integrated modern conveniences.

Mechanically, the car benefits from a comprehensive engine rebuild performed earlier in its life, incorporating Mahle Euro specification pistons, upgraded camshaft profiles, and a custom Steve Wong tune. The transmission has also been rebuilt, and the suspension upgraded with Elephant Racing components throughout. Dyno results show approximately 221 wheel horsepower, delivering performance that is both responsive and engaging while retaining the character of the original 3.2 liter flat six.

Having driven numerous G series backdated and modified examples, this car stands out for the quality of its execution and overall cohesiveness. Steering is precise, the chassis feels tight and lightweight, and power delivery is smooth and immediate.

This is a fully documented, extensively restored, and expertly built backdated Carrera finished in a rare factory Paint to Sample color, representing a compelling opportunity to acquire a properly sorted and highly usable air cooled 911. Specific records available on request.
