The car was very professionally run and prolifically raced to championship victory during the 1973 season in the talented hands of Clemens Schickentanz. At the World Manufacturers Championship race at Nürburgring 1000kms, he was also partnered with Paul Keller and Gunter Steckkoenig and at the Spa 1000kms race with John Fitzpatrick, where they split the qualifying times of the works Martini Racing RSRs (R6 and R5) driven by Gijs van Lennep / Herbert Muller and George Follmer / Reinhold Joest and set an average lap speed of 132.966mph.
After 1973, #0885 was sold on to Hubert Striebig, who updated the car to the latest 3.0 RSR specification for the 1974 season. The car was once again well-prepared and was entered by Louis Meznarie for Striebig to race at the Le Mans 4 hours, where it finished 8th OA. It then took class-wins at both Nogaro and Magny Cours and at the Le Mans 24 hours, again with Striebig, ended in a DNF after 4 hours.
For 1975, the car was entered for the Le Mans 24 hours once again by Louis Meznarie, driven by Striebig, Kirschoffer and Mauroy, who this time finished a respectable 28th OA. Three months later, #0885 was competing again, this time in rally trim, on the 4,224 km Tour de France, with Striebig driving and Jung navigating.
After 1975, the Frenchman, Alan Schick acquired #0885 and for 1976 and 1977, competed with the car in various hill-climbs and afterwards sold it to the Almeras brothers. In 1986, #0885 was sold by Almeras Frères to the President of the Club Porsche de France, Mr Philippe Aunay, who then commisioned a full restoration of #0885 back to its original, 2.8 litre RSR specification. Monsieur Aunay kept the car for ten years until finally advertising it for sale in 1997, when it was acquired by the present owner and BRDC life member.
The car was then sent to respected German racing specialist, Dr S Brunn and was fully-stripped, rebuilt and prepared by Brunn to correct F.I.A competition spec. for international historic racing events. The car raced again very successfully in the hands of the owner and John Morrison in European Group 4 historic events throughout 1998, 1999 and 2000. Since that time the car has remained in the same ownership, but enjoyed a more cared-for and cherished life, in due respect to its rarity and immense period racing history.
This truly iconic and highly desirable Porsche RSR, remains presented today in the most authentic and well-maintained condition possible.
The car is UK road-registered with V5 title and current MOT and can be easily driven on the road or alternatively could, at any time, be entered for the most prestigious historic racing or show events anywhere in the world. #0885 has a continuously recorded ownership history and comes complete with the most exceptionally well-documented history file.
