Following the tremendous success of the 911 SC and Carrera 3.2 models through the 1980s, Porsche prepared for the most major update to the 911 yet with the release of the 964. However, even as production was winding down in late 1988, Porsche found the time and budget to release what may be one of the most recognizable variants of the model – the Speedster. Stylistically, the Speedster harkened back to its forebear, the 356 Speedster, with a shortened and heavily raked windshield. A special ‘double-bubble’ tonneau cover hid a redesigned soft top and required the removal of the rear seats and smaller, manually-wound side windows.
The vast majority of the 2,104 Speedsters produced were built with the ‘Turbo-look’ widebody package, featuring the brakes, suspension, and more from the 930. Approximately 823 were sold in the US and remain one of the most desirable versions of the G-Series 911. Today, their unique style and rarity ensure they hold a well-regarded place in 911 history.
The magnificent 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster featured here is finished in classic and desirable Guards Red over an impeccably kept Cashmere (Beige) leather interior with a Black folding convertible top. This exquisite motorcar has been meticulously maintained and comes with its original owner’s manuals, Porsche Production Specifications, tools, and a clean Carfax.
