HCC is proud to bring to market this one-owner Turbo Look Cabriolet time-capsule: Now showing just over 66k miles, it bears original black paint over a stunning grey-green full leather interior. Delivered new to Forest Lane Porsche in Dallas, this rare widebody tail-delete cabriolet has remained in the hands of its original owner since new and is accompanied by the one of the most complete set of records we have ever come across. Starting with the original purchase order from Forest Lane Porsche, which shows a purchase price of $51,071 and its equipment with the $9,700 “Turbo Look” 930 body and chassis, a complete binder shows in detail every service performed over its 36-year life in Dallas. Thanks to the careful custodianship of the owner, it retained its complete originality, and our team has made maintenance of that originality a priority during our refurbishing to prepare it for its next caretaker. As such, it drives and shows incredibly well while also boasting a period-correctness that few cars its age and rarity can.
The story of the Turbo-Look Carrera begins after the 911 Turbo was introduced in 1974, after which countless Carrera owners sought to achieve the wider, more aggressive stance of the Turbo through body shops. Eventually, the demand for Turbo look-alike Carreras became so significant that Porsche began offering the “retrofit” service on a case-by-case basis. Finally, in 1984, Porsche finally began officially offering what is now known as option M491, which included: 930 Turbo front fenders, rear fenders, a front spoiler, rear wing, complete Turbo brake assembly, and wider Fuchs wheels. One also had the option to delete one or both of either the front spoiler or the rear wing. In this car’s case, it was ordered without the back spoiler while retaining the front spoiler. Starting in 1986, both front and rear fenders were manufactured as widebody parts from the start, while prior model years had fender extensions welded to the original narrow fenders. Though exact production numbers of M491 cars are somewhat debated, official communication from Porsche indicates that this is one of just 8 M491 cabriolets delivered to the United States for model year 1986, making it an exceptionally rare specification.
To prepare this 911 for sale, HCC completed a full and comprehensive maintenance. New Bridgestone tires, tune-up including plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, valve adjustment, oil change, new battery, brake flush, refresh the gear oil, replaced the shifter bushings, alignment, and addressed any other needs. A new Blaupunkt stereo head unit was installed.
While not documented, a new top was fitted in the recent past as it is in excellent condition. It also recently had a new R134 compressor installed at Park Place Porsche. A larger AC condenser was added in the past to improve cooling.
This wide-body cabriolet drives exceptionally well; starts quickly, smooth shifts, and pulls very strong. No leaks or drips exist.
