The vehicle in detail

The concept for the Porsche 911, then called the 901, which was the brainchild of Ferry Porsche’s son “Butzi” Porsche, appeared at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show and was launched in 1964. The first version of this 2+2 coupé, with its characteristic sloping roofline, was equipped with a new 2-litre flat-six engine developing 130 hp. It was not until two years later, at the 1966 Paris Motor Show, that the 911 S was presented: a truly sporty version of the 911 with its 2-litre aluminium engine increased to 160 hp and its famous Fuchs rims. But in 1967, a whole range of models was launched with the “T”, the “2L” and the “S”, all with the same 2-litre Flat 6 engine but with different power ratings. Two years later, the displacement was increased to 2.2 litres. The 911 E, positioned above the “T”, now delivers 155 horsepower thanks to fuel injection. It was fitted with an aluminium bonnet and its road holding was improved by the addition of stabiliser bars, four disc brakes and a new steering box. The range will continue to evolve with its T, E and S variants as the engine capacity increases.
