The vehicle in detail

The very first 911 made its debut at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show as the Type 901. As the successor to the Porsche 356, it immediately won the unanimous approval of sports car enthusiasts. sports car enthusiasts.

To find a name for its new model, Porsche referred to Volkswagen’s spare parts numbering system, with a view to future cooperation between the two groups. the two groups. A year later, the Type 901 abandoned its prototype status and was presented under the definitive name of 901. This was without counting on Peugeot’s intervention. Peugeot justified its use of a 3-digit numbering system with an O in the middle since 1929. In November 1964, Ferry Porsche finally decided to call it 911, not least for practical reasons. Cauto was initially marketed with a 2-liter 130 hp engine, followed by a 160 hp S version in 1966.

The range was gradually extended with the introduction of the T and E models in 1968. In 1969, Porsche increased the displacement of its 2.2-liter flat 6, again with the three models T (125 hp), E (155 hp) and S (180 hp). The E and S were equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, while the T retained Zenith carburetors (identical layout to the 2.01). The 2.2 was discontinued in 1972 in favor of the 2.4-liter.
