1965 Porsche 911 2.0 SWB – National Origin, Fully Restored
This 1965 Porsche 911 2.0 SWB, originally delivered in Portugal, has been fully restored and is presented in a magnificent color combination of Slate Grey with Bordeaux interior. Launched in 1964, the model was initially named the 901. However, due to a legal dispute with Peugeot, which held the rights to three-digit model names with a “0” in the middle, Porsche was forced to change the name to 911. Thus was born one of the most iconic cars in history – designed as the successor to the Porsche 356, but with far greater ambition and sophistication.

The vehicle in detail

The earliest versions, produced between 1964 and 1966, were distinguished by their short wheelbase (SWB) of just 2,211 mm. Combined with low weight and the traditional “rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive” layout, this gave the car exceptional agility, though it also demanded skill from the driver when exploring the limits of grip.
Its engine was a 2.0-liter air-cooled flat-six, mounted at the rear, producing around 130 hp at 6,100 rpm. Paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, it delivered impressive performance for its time, with strong acceleration and a top speed close to 210 km/h – remarkable figures for the mid-1960s.
Inside, the 911 offered a more modern and refined feel than the 356, while maintaining the functional simplicity that defined the brand. The dashboard, dominated by five round gauges, became a Porsche signature. The front seats provided good lateral support, while the rear seats were symbolic yet practical, suitable for passengers or luggage.
Today, the first-series SWB 911s (built between 1964 and 1966) are particularly valued by collectors – not only because they represent the inaugural years of the model, but also for their aesthetic purity, distinctive driving dynamics, and their role as the starting point of Porsche’s most famous lineage.
