Porsche 911 2.0S SWB

Few can deny that the Porsche 911 has been an automotive success, continually evolving with each generation to ensure it is still a technical tour de force today. However, it is often said that the best design is invariably the original and in the case of the 911 that started back in 1963 with the launch of the 901 prototype to replace the aging 356 series.

The vehicle in detail

A beautifully simple 4 seater coupe body, with an all aluminium 2.0 flat 6 air cooled engine, often mated to a 5 speed gearbox, with clear functional controls, fantastic visibility and the most informative steering, were all hallmarks of these early short wheelbase (SWB) 911s.

Initially launched with 130BHP, a hotter S version would arrive in 1966 featuring a 160BHP engine mated to a 901 5 speed gearbox, that ensured it reached its 140mph maximum speed with ease. It looks impossibly delicate when parked next to a current 911S today, but to those in the know, it’s the 2.0S SWB that offers one of the purist undiluted 911 experiences behind the wheel of any 911 and the reason why they are so highly prized with enthusiasts today.

Chassis number 308377S is a genuine 911 2.0S SWB that we are delighted to offer for sale. Supplied with a certificate of authenticity and a copy of the Kardex, confirming a matching numbers car that was manufactured on 13.06.67 and sold new to its first owner Mrs Joan Ruggerio of Hollywood California on 18.06.67 making this an O Series car.

The A series would follow later in 1967 with wider wheels and a more modern interior, but it is these early O series 911s that are coveted by enthusiasts today, with distinctive one colour Fuchs alloys that were only 4.5” wide and unique dials that feature a 7,200rpm rev limit and green numerals with chrome bezels. It was originally supplied in slate grey (6601) with black leatherette interior, the combination it is still finished in today.

It appears to have stayed in California for the first 26 years with just two registered keepers before moving to Colorado in 1993 where it was used as a road/track car by the next two owners, the second being a PCA member and instructor. It was sold to its next owner in 2012 who decided to have the car restored back to its original specification and this included sourcing genuine period parts, particularly for the interior that had been removed some years previously in the interest of saving weight at the circuit. Nearly every receipt is present for the full restoration, which was carried out by a Porsche specialist David Imes of Apex in Lakewood Colorado. It was subsequently sold to its current owner, who brought it back to the UK in 2017.

Anyone familiar with these early 911s, will know that a well sorted car is a country mile away from an average example and jumping into this 2.0S reveals a car that feels just right. It has a perfectly built gearbox mated to a sweet engine and a well set up chassis, ensuring you can attack your favourite B road in total confidence and at a surprising pace too!

The fact it looks so pretty in its original specification and colour scheme, will also ensure your smile continues, long after you have arrived at your favourite rendezvous.
