Porsche 911 S

Porsche 911 S

Coupé, 1968

Highlights

  • Lemon yellow!
  • approx. 15,000 km since restoration
  • Steel sliding roof

With this model, the incomparable success story, unique in automotive history, took its course. The "S" in its pure form, with a short wheelbase, Weber carburetors, a taut chassis and an engine that we are not alone in describing as the benchmark of the thoroughbred sports engine. The "small" 2.0-litre boxer with corresponding valve control, compression and optimized gas exchange is the essence of everything Mr Porsche wanted to tell us.

Anyone who has ever heard this engine under load above 4000 rpm knows what we are trying to tell you.

The vehicle in detail

We are offering you a coupe with a factory-supplied steel sunroof, which was fully documented restored around 12 years ago and has since covered approx. 15ooo km under the best possible conditions. The correct 2.0 S engine from the 1968 number range of all S models built is installed, although this is not "matching".

Otherwise, even a critical observer will find nothing wrong with this vehicle. The underbody (painted in body color) impresses with its complete absence of rust and apparently flawless new bodywork. The engine shines brightly against the chrome and wears fully restored WEBER 40 IDS carburetors like crowns in the yellow-painted engine compartment. Stainless steel heat exchangers from SSI together with a stainless steel silencer round off the view from below.

Both the drive and the gearbox are dust-dry by Porsche standards and do not cause any noticeable or even disturbing background noises during the test run. The brakes, chassis and suspension make a new, fresh impression. Both the quality of the paintwork and the interior fittings are of a high standard of craftsmanship. A Clubsport roll bar (correct for the period!) and a retro trip (mechanical odometer) round off the successful combination of all components.

Ladies and gentlemen - there won't be any more of these, and remember what we said when we're already looking for these cars with a magnifying glass in 2022, for example, because the few S models will have long been in the hands of knowledgeable collectors and will no longer be on the market. Even if it is a bitter pill to swallow to invest so much money - if you have it available and want to invest, now would be the right time.

You don't often hear us say that last sentence, do you? Partly because we want to avoid the inflationary use of this recommendation at all costs.

But in this case, we'll make an exception. Because we are convinced of it. In terms of price, this purest series 911 keeps a clear distance from the museum pieces that are also available worldwide, without differing from them in terms of quality. With ours, however, you can do to your heart's content what the Porsche 911 S does best - drive.

Not entirely unimportant for a car, is it?

Best regards

Your DLS - Team
