1976 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0
The Porsche 911 has always embodied speed and refined driving dynamics, yet with the arrival of the Turbo variant the equation gained an additional layer of raw intensity. The car quickly earned the dramatic nickname “the widowmaker,” a reflection of its famously demanding handling characteristics. In reality, however, the car rewards a skilled driver with a remarkably engaging and surprisingly comfortable grand touring experience-arguably the ultimate expression of the 911 in 1976.
The first Turbo models reached their customers in 1975, making this 1976 example an early iteration equipped with the highly sought-after 3.0-litre engine. While the later 3.3-litre Turbo engine is equally impressive, it was produced in significantly greater numbers. Consequently, examples such as this-with its matching-numbers 3.0-litre flat-six-are particularly coveted by collectors and connoisseurs.
