1977 Porsche 930 Turbo 3.0
Before the 911 Turbo-also known as the Porsche 930-came into being, a 911 was primarily about poise, balance, and driver engagement. These were lightweight cars with a fitting amount of horsepower, but with the arrival of the Turbo the 911 crossed the 250 hp threshold for the first time, and soon after the 300 hp mark as well.
Among Porsche enthusiasts there is likely some debate about which 930 engine is the ultimate: the original 3.0-litre unit producing 260 hp, or the later and more widespread 3.3-litre version with 300 hp. Is it rarity that defines the pinnacle, or outright power?
This car represents a compelling middle ground. It is a 1977 911 Turbo, originally delivered with the 3.0-litre engine and later upgraded with the newer 3.3-litre unit. The car was delivered new in the United States, but has been in the care of the same Danish owner since 2001. During that time it has been maintained within a Porsche-enthusiast family, something clearly reflected in its very fine and largely original condition. Work beyond what could be handled privately has been entrusted to Kim Clausen at Porsche Centrum.
