1976 Porsche Turbo Carrera

There are model designations that command a little more respect than others. Some of them for unfounded reasons, but others, such as the 930, were able to live up to its notorious reputation as one of the motor industry's absolute wildest creations of its time. With characteristics that eventually earned the car the nickname 'The Widowmaker'.

The vehicle in detail

It's worth going back in time to the mid-70s. More specifically, 1974 and the Paris Motor Show. This is where the outside world first sees the new model from everyone's favorite manufacturer. The Porsche TURBO. The shapes are recognizable but the car seems to have starved and become more muscular. The now iconic hips over the rear wheels are much more marked and defined than on its siblings and at the back a well-dimensioned wing that would become synonymous with the model for decades to come. But it was above all the heavily turbocharged 3-liter engine that was the highlight. Early cars like this had 245hp (260hp for Europeans) and a steep power curve to say the least, which unfortunately meant that many were surprised in the wrong place by the car's performance. Someone who, as I said, had it in mind that it was nicknamed 'The Widowmaker'.

This example is from 1976 and began its life on the American West Coast and came to Europe in 2006. The car comes with a binder full of documentation that follows the car back a long way with receipts and maintenance receipts. The car came to Europe as a fine example but has recently undergone a significant renovation. Something that is also supported by receipts and other documents.

In the previously mentioned binder we also find highlights such as COA documents from Porsche which confirm that the car is 'numbers matching' as well as early registration documents dated 1976. Something that is very unusual and a wonderful detail that speaks to the whole.

Visually, the car presents itself as one of the best examples we have had in recent times. Solid black exterior with model-specific wide Fuchs rims with polished tread and painted centers. As it should be. As I said, it is an exterior that is very elegant and free from unnecessary details but at the same time presents a rather serious and angry look. The inside is just as beautiful as the outside and breaks the dark exterior with a saddle-colored brown interior. It is an interior that is quite to-the-point and ensures that the driver focuses on the right things. Sports seats of course and with the backrests folded back you can see the sewn-in Turbo logo. A small but wonderful detail.

The whole thing is magical. Truly a 930 like no other with a history that we unfortunately rarely see on cars from this vintage.
