1987 Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3
The 930 Turbo defines the concept of a supercar from the eighties. The air-cooled 3.3 litre flat six delivers 300 hp and is known for its explosive power delivery. In 1987 this engine was still paired with the notorious four speed gearbox with its long ratios. Driving is physical work as power steering and ABS are completely absent. The wide hips and the flat ‘tea tray’ rear spoiler were necessary to house the engineering and keep the car on the road. The interior is no-nonsense with clear dials and upright seats.
Nice detail: although the naturally aspirated Carrera received the G50 5-speed in 1987, the Turbo stuck with the 4-speed because this was the only transmission that could reliably handle the brutal torque.
