Porsche 911 Turbo Flachbau

Porsche 911 Turbo Flachbau

Targa, 1988

Highlights

  • M505 Slantnose Targa
  • VIN: WP0EB093XJS06XXXX
  • Low mileage!

This is an extremely rare 930 Turbo Targa. One of only 31 made at the factory with the M505 slant nose option. There cars trade infrequently and typically in the $400-$500K range.

Sold new and delivered to it’s CT owner in the summer of 1988. As often happened with “widow maker” the new owner wasn’t used to the turbo lag and 395 miles into his ownership he was in an accident. While the true extent of the damage is not clear given the years that have past, the insurance company paid out a total loss claim. The owner was allowed to keep the damaged car and it was placed in storage. In 1994 the car was repaired and put back on the road in NY and later VT with 10,897 miles, CT again and then SC and NJ with 12.970 miles. During this period there was no uniform state to state treatment of titles from damaged cars, so some stated issued clean titles not showing the prior history. This is clearly evident on the Carfax report. In March of 2012 the current owner purchased the car in VA with 13,010 miles.

The vehicle in detail

Not knowing the future significance of the car’s production rarity and as was often done during a time when convertibles were more in vogue, the car’s Targa bar and rear glass were removed and a cabriolet top fitted in place.

When the current owner purchased the car in 2012, it was presented as 1988 slant-nose turbo cabriolet. Over the next 12 years, the current owner enjoyed his convertible sparingly adding approximately 4000 miles. It was only when he decided to offer the car for sale in 2024 that he discovered the cabriolet that he owned had actually been born one of 31 M505 slant nose turbo Targas.

Once learning this new information, the owner began the hunt for a shop that could return the car to its original condition as a Targa. Enter Sonderwerks, where the car was brought in September of 2024 to begin the process. Over the next year, Sonderwerks located all of the correct Porsche OEM parts and proceeded to undo any alterations to the car. The convertible top was removed, and a replacement Targa bar, glass, interior panels and Targa top were all painstakingly put back into place and the car’s rear third repainted. The car now presents as originally manufactured and it’s a stunner!
