Does this Porsche 912 look familiar to you? That’s right!
It is extraordinary that a Porsche found its way to Spain during the Franco dictatorship.
An early, unrestored Porsche 0-Series, delivered to the EU(!) in its original condition—an absolute rarity!
It was the 1960s on the Iberian Peninsula during the Franco dictatorship, when ordinary people drove the domestic Seat. Doctors, lawyers, and those with connections to the military were allowed to drive VW Beetles.
But a Porsche? That was an absolute exception!
Yet, according to the numerous documents that exist regarding this car, that is exactly what happened. In October 1966, this vehicle—clearly a model from the 0-series, which was built until the factory holidays in 1967—was delivered to the then-vehicle importer Seida in Madrid. The first owner, a major industrialist from Valencia, raced it in his spare time. This Porsche and its proud first owner appear in some results lists from competitions on the Iberian Peninsula.
After the man’s death, the family kept the Porsche until August 2004, well-protected and maintained for a total of 38 years. They subsequently sold it to the Spanish race car driver Carlos Beltran. He, in turn, passed the vehicle on after some time to an olive oil producer from Madrid, from whom I was able to purchase the Porsche back in 2016. After numerous enjoyable drives on the Balearic Islands through the Tramuntana Mountains and also in northern Germany, this attractive and reliable 912 has always been a faithful companion.
Even today, this Porsche, preserved in its original condition, remains in excellent shape, and even the chrome, seals, and paintwork have withstood nearly 60 years of use remarkably well.
