Porsche 912 – A Piece of Porsche History, Beautifully Revived

Around two years ago, we acquired this unit directly from a private owner with the intention of carrying out a partial restoration — focusing on the bodywork, paint, and interior — and returning it to the market with the brilliance a 912 deserves today. Upon inspection, we found that the chassis and mechanical components did not require a full restoration, as several works had already been completed in previous years. Only minor updates and adjustments were needed to bring everything back to top condition.

The vehicle in detail

Once a slot opened in the restoration department at our Madrid facility, we began the process: complete disassembly, body preparation, painting, and reassembly — resulting in the car you can see in the photographs.

This Porsche 912, first and only registered in Valencia in 1966, has not yet been registered as a historic vehicle — that decision will be left to its next owner.

Only 2,030 units were produced in 1966.

“This particular car, chassis number 352xxx, was built in 1966 with matching engine number 8322xx (engine type 616/36, gearbox type 902/0) and factory options including a 5-speed gearbox and electric sunroof, making it a particularly special example. Even more unique is that it was first registered in Valencia in 1966, which is quite unusual considering there was no official Porsche importer in Spain at that time. Now, 59 years later, this 912 remains in excellent form — ready to be enjoyed without hesitation.” — Jordi Edo

Exterior

For this unit, we carried out a complete body and paint restoration, returning the car to its original Polo Red color.

The full disassembly, body preparation, and paintwork were all completed at our facilities in Madrid, ensuring the highest level of craftsmanship and authenticity.

Customized Interior

For the interior, we allowed ourselves a few tasteful liberties, rather than pursuing a fully factory-original restoration. We focused primarily on the seats, while the carpets and upholstery were preserved in their good, original condition — maintaining a charming patina.

The seats were retrimmed in black leather with pepita-pattern centers, adding warmth and detail to the cabin. Another distinctive touch is the wooden steering wheel, not original to the car but adding a sense of elegance and character.

All upholstery and interior work were carried out in our Madrid and Barcelona workshops.

Jordi’s Opinion

Ferry Porsche and his management team saw a significant gap between the 356 and the expensive 911. They realized there was a market of potential 911 buyers who couldn’t quite reach that price level, and thus decided to launch a car that shared the same design and feel as the 911, but with a more affordable engine — the 90 hp 356 SC unit already in production. The result was a total success, especially in the U.S. market.

This engine, while not to be compared directly with the six-cylinder 2.0, performs beautifully in the light 912 chassis (995 kg). For pleasure driving, it offers more than enough power and an exceptionally balanced feel.

Once undervalued but always appreciated for its 911 heritage and authenticity, the 912 has seen a steady rise in interest and value over the last seven years — a trend we believe will continue, as it remains one of the purest and most timeless Porsche experiences.
