In addition to the phenomenal machines that raced at Le Mans, Porsche built a series of full-scale models without a drivetrain or other key components for display and promotional purposes. These models were built throughout 2014 to be exhibited at races and motor shows, and displayed in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. The Porsche Experience Center in Le Mans also displayed a car—the model offered here—which had been affixed to the wall of the Center since its grand opening in 2015.
While Porsche was no stranger to victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans—having won the fabled endurance race outright 16 times from 1970 to the mid-2010s—the German marque entered uncharted waters in 2014 as it introduced its now legendary hybrid-powertrain 919 to compete in the LMP1 category. Propelled by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels and an electric motor delivering power through the front, the 919 went on to earn three consecutive overall wins at the Circuit de la Sarthe from 2015 to 2017.
The show car will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Porsche Experience Center Le Mans. With a visual appeal the equal of its success on track, this 919 Show Car would look the part on display in any garage or workshop.
