Launched just prior to global recession and with a short six model year production run, the 964 is relatively rare. While Porsche’s North America sales totaled over 30,000 cars in 1986, 1993 production fell to just 3,700 cars. Consequently, great 964s are difficult to find and sought after by enthusiasts and collectors seeking the quintessential air-cooled 911 experience but wanting 160mph+ performance, ABS, and modern levels of usability.
In addition to the three legacy body styles of coupe, cabriolet, and targa, the 964 was also available with two additional configuration choices that significantly increased the permutations available to 911 buyers. 4 wheel drive was one of these, while a 4-speed automatic transmission with manual control functionality was also offered on rear wheel drive cars as well. A number of limited edition variants also appeared including the America RS, Speedster, and the America Roadster.
The America Roadster was a limited production model of 250 units for the North American market and was distinguished by its Turbo fender flares, suspension, brakes, and wheels. In the European market, a car with nearly the same specification was offered, although they did not share the America Roadster designation, nor did they have the rear seat delete package, which was fitted as standard equipment on America Roadsters.
In the 1990s, Porsches were available with much fewer options, and this car was one of a small quantity of cars that received a fairly substantial options list, including color to sample leather interior in Can Can red. The car was also optioned with supple leather, deviated velour trunk carpet in red (normally this would have been black regardless of interior color), limited slip differential, power seats, cruise control, CD player, and wheel caps with Porsche crests.
The car was sold new by Braman Motorcars in West Palm Beach, Florida. It has been well-maintained and cherished throughout its life, having covered 50,000 miles from new. It is very well preserved and totally unmodified down to the original radio, which has been rebuilt (these units usually failed when only a few years old). Included with the car are books, tools, and compressor.
