A Porsche from those we particularly like.

The reason for this is easy to name - without exception, all Porsches from the air-cooled era up to 1998 were built much more elaborately - almost by hand - in contrast to today. the production time from start to finish took almost four times as long as today. In the case of the 964, this so-called production time culminated in a value that justifiably took on the dimensions of a manufactory. The enormous expense at that time brought the Porsche company into existential difficulties until a certain Mr. Wiedeking courageously took the reins and turned Porsche into one of the most profitable companies of its kind. The rest is history....he circle closes on our confession in the first sentence, when we use all our experience of the last 40 years to explain why we particularly like these Porsches from that time: they seem made for eternity if you look after them. There are not too many cars that are suitable for inheritance, dear readers. But a good 964 is definitely one of them.

The vehicle in detail

And now, as a general refresher, a few historical facts about this model before we come to our offer.
The bold step taken by the then still relatively small Porsche company to present a contemporary version of its highly coveted perennial favorite with the magical designation 911, without robbing it of its essential characteristics or even its shape and silhouette, culminated in the introduction of the 964 model in 1989. This tour de force meant nothing less than leaving the shape and dimensions of the 911 developed up to that point intact, but in effect building a new car under the bodywork. Despite all the adversities and emerging regulations, Porsche AG managed to integrate a fully encapsulated 3.6-liter boxer engine into the rear of the 911, which not only met all the increasingly stringent global requirements of the time in an exemplary manner on the exhaust side. This drive train also complied with all noise regulations, now also powered a power-assisted steering system, and heated and air-conditioned the interior quickly, constantly and semi-automatically. From this 964 model onwards, a modern automatic transmission, a modern ABS system and a completely newly developed suspension strut chassis were also available on request, which offered much more scope for further increases in performance and the associated dynamic reserves compared to the previous model. Finally, from this 964 model onwards, a highly complex all-wheel drive system was also offered on request, which was largely based on the drive system of the 959 technology carrier.

Last but not least, the ingenious aerodynamics of the new 964 now allowed for outputs of up to almost 400 hp and the associated top speeds of up to 300 kph without driving beads of sweat onto the driver's forehead. The top models of this very short-lived model series proved to the world and all experts that this basically outdated concept with around 70% of the vehicle weight on the rear axle was far from obsolete. This design-related rear-heaviness had its disadvantages, which Porsche persistently got under control so convincingly over the decades that the experts could only marvel at it. However, the advantages of this concept were, are and remain the most striking characteristics of a Porsche 911 - unrelenting traction on the drive axle and thus very efficient use of the power on offer on the one hand. Even more astonishing, however, is the braking force that can be transferred to the rear axle as a result, which is why the 911 has always delivered reference values that are now beyond the limits of physics - thanks in part to the choice of the best braking elements.
Back to our 964 on offer, which was given all of the above attributes ex works: long-term quality built largely by hand, modern and contemporary technology in the form of ABS, airbags, power steering, air conditioning, fully electric soft top, comfort seats, "Porsche" driving of a thoroughbred sports car that no longer has to prove anything to anyone despite its now almost biblical age, unconditional suitability for everyday use, 100% spare parts supply, easy handling, and finally a reliability that is probably unique in this segment and age. Above all, it is this unconditional reliability that makes it so desirable even after decades. We maintain that there is no other open-top sports car from the 90s that is anywhere near as reliable as this 964.
The best thing about it - the 964 was the last to remain true to the classic 911 line and looks like a 911 should look. Try covering the car with a sheet before showing it to a 2-year-old boy. He will stretch out his index finger and say "Porsche".
Our 964 Cabriolet on offer couldn't be better presented and is exactly what we all want, but are now finding less and less of.
The Porsche has a complete checkbook from 1992 to 2024, is accident-free and has no maintenance backlog whatsoever. The emphasis is on none. In order to be able to make this statement with such certainty, we "had" to have the pleasure of taking it for a long drive. After this test drive turned out as positively as it did in this case, we went to the Leitz folder, which was fortunately available, and looked at exactly why this car is the way it is.
The reason for this is quickly recognized and is reinforced by 4 classic-data appraisals carried out within the last 10 years. The grade received, awarded by one of the most renowned Porsche appraisers in Germany, is consistently grade 2. 10 years ago it already received this grade, which is awarded for a well-maintained, 3-5 year old vehicle with no significant signs of use. Or a 33-year-old Porsche 964 corresponding to this condition. And this is exactly how you can imagine the Porsche 964 on offer, or already recognize it from the photos provided? Just like a well-maintained, 3-5-year-old Porsche that is technically PERFECT.
It drives dewy and crisp, the engine runs mechanically quiet like a wool sock, slightly modified on the exhaust side to deliver the typical, very mature-sounding baritone sound that only the 964 can.
The gearbox shifts perfectly, the clutch is as good as new, the chassis is firm and clean. All of its electrical aids work without exception, the soft top is new and its mechanics have been completely overhauled, and the air conditioning system can keep the interior freezing cold if required.
So as not to get lost in every single detail, we will leave this description of this magnificent 964 Carrera 2 Porsche with a simple summary: despite its 180000 km total mileage, you will hardly find a better conditioned example of this model on the market. Perhaps even because of this, because as we all know by now, nothing better can happen to a Porsche than to be driven and serviced by a mechanic who has thoroughly understood and internalized these "old" Porsches. In our case, it was Hansi Joos from Joos Sportwagen, who took great care of this 964. There is no better address in our southern German region.
As always, you can rely on us or visit us by appointment. You will be surprised how good a Porsche can be when it has been driven by expert hands and looked after by a master of his trade.

With this in mind, as always with 964 of our best recommendations
