The rebirth of the Speedster ignites the heart of the passionates at the beginning of the 90s. With its characteristic low windshield, the Speedster 964 takes the rigid rear soft top cover of the Speedster 3.2 but abandons the turbo-look (except as an option for an additional 9.600 €).
The soft top remains manual and requires minimalist standard equipment borrowed from the 964 RS: fiberglass shell rings painted in body color (can be replaced by optional “comfort” seats), door opening straps, bellows of gear lever and handbrake or its dashboard. Lighter than the 964 convertible, the Speedster offers performances very similar to those of the Carrera 2 coupe. For the record, the last Speedster 964 produced, was named “Sonderwunsch” for “Special Wish”, it goes through the workshops “Porsche Exclusive” to be lighter, it receives brakes from Turbo, suspension and brakes from the RS, it develops 260 hp through a modification of the ignition, the latter will be ‘lyre to a Londoner, for an unknown but probably indecent sum!
Porsche will produce 936 Speedster on the 964 generation, against the 3000 pros initially planned.
