Introduced in March of 1990, the 964-generation 911 Turbo marked an interesting moment in the history of the model in retrospect. In its move to the 964 platform, Porsche brought about considerable upgrades in terms of usability and refinement, including power steering, coil spring suspension instead of torsion bars, and anti-lock brakes. For the first two years of 964 Turbo production, Porsche used a 3.3-litre flat-six cylinder engine which was derived from the 930 Turbo, albeit with revisions to reduce the turbocharger’s lag, making its 315 bhp much more accessible. With a wider track and rear arches affording for 255/40-17 tyres, this made for a car that was as exciting to drive as it was usable.
This particular example stands out from the crowd thanks to its incredible Amethyst over Magenta colour combination. As per the sticker underneath the car’s bonnet, it was designated for the Spanish market (C27) and is believed to have been used there when new as the factory demonstrator. An extract of the car’s previous ownership history in Spain chronicles its history there from 1995-2005. By 2018, the car had moved to Luxembourg by which point it had accumulated some 69,000 kilometers on its odometer. An invoice on file from the official Porsche dealership Garage André Losch S.à.r.l. show that it received an engine-out service by them totaling to €20,987.60 worth of work.
Acquired by a German collector in 2019, the 911 Turbo received another engine-out overhaul by ATG Auto Technik Gruber KG in Kaiserbach, with invoices totaling to €13,773.98. Further servicing was carried out by them in 2020. Since then, the car has remained in Germany and is currently showing less than 71,500 kilometers on its odometer.
Marketed as the fastest-accelerating production car when new in 1991, over thirty years later the 911 Turbo is still guaranteed to thrill. In such a spectacular colour combination, this example begs to be driven and enjoyed where it can be seen and appreciated as a truly eye-catching sports car designed to be used on a regular basis.
