The vehicle in detail

When Porsche unveiled the GT3 with the 996 generation, it quickly became one of the brand’s most sought-after cars and the ultimate choice for the driving enthusiast. With a focus on track work and pure driving enjoyment, the GT3 was a stripped-down variant of the standard 911 but was equipped with a motorsport-derived flat-6. The 991 generation GT3 was equally as anticipated as every generation before it. With an otherworldly 9,000 rpm flat-6, excellent styling, and a chassis that could out-handle almost anything on the road, the first generation was only available with a 7-speed PDK gearbox. Porsche assumed a PDK would be the desirable choice given the gearbox’s outstanding flexibility- offering both fast and consistent times on the track while also making trips sitting in traffic simple and stress-free.

This 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 is finished in White over black leather and Alcantara interior with full bucket seats and shows 5,560 miles at the time of cataloging. This car benefits from nearly $50,000 in upgrades that improve the car’s performance, as well as its aesthetics. The first thing you notice when you approach the car is the stunning TechArt Gloss Carbon Fiber aero package- costing nearly $24,500 before installation, this fits the car with a beautiful carbon front lip spoiler, front air blades, mirror caps, rear ram-air intake scoops, rear spoiler and caps, side skirts, and rear diffuser. Although this is costly, particularly when paired with a white car, the carbon pieces really make a statement. Additionally, a set of AL13 wheels with gloss carbon barrels and satin black centers have been added- built in Orange County, these carbon multi-piece wheels feature barrels from carbon wheel pioneers Dymag and are finished to a very high quality. These wheels, plus the carbon accessories, give the car a clean look amplified even further by a set of smoked taillight lenses, paint-matched rear side markers, and clear corners up front.

The interior of this GT3 is a great place to spend time- dominated by a pair of hardback bucket seats in black leather with Alcantara centers that feature a gray stripe. The Alcantara- or Race-Tex as Porsche calls it- continues on to the steering wheel, center armrest, door cards, and lower dashboard and is paired with elegant brushed stainless steel trim. A set of white-faced gauges sits in front of the driver, and white stitching is specified throughout. A Bose premium stereo is also fitted to this car, offering fantastic sound thanks to its 12 speakers and 555 watts of output.

Powering the GT3 is Porsche’s legendary 4.0-liter Flat-6, which produces 493 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque while revving all the way to 9,000 rpm. What makes this engine so unique is that not only will it spin at 9,000 rpm all day, but it is also wonderfully torquey and responsive in the lower revs, making it just as happy running around town as it is out on the track. To enhance the sound, a Sharkwerks center exhaust box gives the car a deeper and more aggressive tone. This example is paired with Porsche’s quick-shifting 7-speed PDK, which offers the perfect blend of on-track performance and ease of use in real-world driving. Carbon ceramic brakes with bright yellow calipers are optioned on this car, providing fade-free stopping on even the most intense track days.

Some road cars will go down forever in Porsche’s history books as the company’s best work- without a doubt, the 991.2 GT3 will be on that list. This example, with nearly $50,000 in high-quality upgrades, makes the proposition even more appealing. Even with the new GT3 on sale today, many who have driven both still gravitate toward the 991.2 generation as a real best-of-both-worlds car that Porsche may never be bettered.
