While every 911 is special, there are few 911s that combine the potent brew of special colors, low mileage, and celebrity ownership from new – and this is one such car.

According to the copy of the original window sticker on file, this 993 Carrera 4 Cabriolet was retailed new through Premier Motorcars in Albuquerque, New Mexico to its first and only owners – Academy Award winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy. Finished in the oh-so-Santa Fe appropriate shade of Turquoise Metallic with a Classic Grey top and Classic Grey partial leather interior, the Hackmans were particular when ordering their Porsche for the high desert. Starting off with a six-speed manual to stir the power to all-four wheels, this very well-appointed car includes a host of optional extras including the Hi-Fi Sound Package with eight speakers and a Blaupunkt Toronto radio, remote “CD” changer, heated and power front seats, and more.

The vehicle in detail

Delivered new to the Hackmans in December of 1995, the Porsche was sparingly driven and kept in lovely shape. Showing a mere 4,285 miles from new – corroborated by both its stunning cosmetic condition and clean CARFAX – it would be a crown jewel in any collection, and the celebrity provenance only amplifies the merits of this machine.

For many enthusiasts, the 993 represents the zenith of the original 911 concept, a vehicle that would never say ‘no’ to a challenge. This low mileage example, complete with its original window sticker, tool roll, Porsche Roadside assistance cards (which include the VIN) in the name of Betsy Hackman, a copy of the final registration in the name of Betsy Hackman, and an insurance card in the name of “G.A. Hackman & B. Hackman” will make just about anyone think, “hell of a damn Porsche. Wish it were mine.”
In 1993 Porsche introduced what is regarded by many as the most beautiful 911 of them all: the Type 993. Over the years the 911’s purity had been diluted by various safety add-ons. The Type 993 marked a return to basics, being recognizably a 911 but freed of extraneous bits to spoil its lines. Beneath the beautiful body, engineers devised a new light-alloy sub frame with an all-new multi-link suspension, putting behind the previous generations’ lift-off oversteer and making significant progress with handling and refinement. The 993 was also the first 911 to receive a six-speed transmission, and engines gained variable intake and sophisticated modern electronic management. The range comprised of two- and four-wheel drive models, the legendary Turbo, and the Cabriolet convertible, all powered by the latest, 3.6-liter version of Porsche’s perennial air-cooled flat-six engine.
