The natural evolution of the 993 Carrera 4S compared to the original 911 is also evident. Each subsequent generation included changes that, in our opinion, seemed a little more artificial. This took away some of the raw and uncompromising character, with the exception of a single winged GT version. Note, for example, the characteristic roofline, which is pulled down remarkably far. Or the hips, which are traditionally considerably wider than the rest of the bodywork. The headlights lean back slightly more subtly, but are still just as round. However, the model is less angular and therefore more elegant than its predecessors; typical 90s style. But less raw? Not at all. It means that we can best describe our 993 Coupe 4S as a natural beauty. One that has evolved perfectly and comes across as pleasantly discreet, with its Schwarz Metallic paintwork. In addition, this model exudes originality: the electric sliding/tilting roof, painted in the same color as the bodywork, for example, completes the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S!
// Equipment
Although the classic layout of the shallow dashboard suggests otherwise, the equipment of the 993 is by no means spartan. In addition to an open roof, there is also air conditioning. So you can cool down without losing your wild hair! Furthermore, the black leather seats are electrically adjustable, even in height. The integrated seat heating should help prevent buttocks from getting cold in winter. Although you'll quickly warm up to the authentic look of this Porsche, which is in beautiful condition. Our Elfer won't settle for less than five analog instruments on the dashboard. As it should be! Other features of earlier 911 models include the relatively upright windshield and minimalist center/tunnel console. If you take a look at the latter, two things will catch your eye: the factory-fitted Porsche Classic Radio Navigation System and... a manual transmission!
// Technology
Not only is it a relief that you can literally get stuck in behind the wheel of the Porsche 993 Carrera 4S, but we also missed the fact that the manual version is faster on paper than the automatic. Anyone who can find all six gears blindfolded can theoretically accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. That's a time saving of 1.2 seconds compared to the four-speed automatic! The top speed of 270 km/h is also a whopping 5 km/h higher. And then you wonder where that ego – er, image – comes from among Europeans who swear by manual shifting... The naturally aspirated 6-cylinder boxer engine in the rear has a capacity of 3.6 liters and, since the model update or upgrade at the end of 1995, has been able to squeeze a total of 286 hp out of the air-cooled block – 13 more horses than before. The accompanying maintenance booklets confirm our dark suspicion that the classic 911 has been excellently cared for. Just like the characteristic boxer rumble sounds!
