2003 PORSCHE 911 (996) Carrera 4 Cabrio for sale!

Classic in the making: this Porsche 996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet is a VAT car and therefore possibly extra attractive for a youngtimer scheme! How tempting is it to also do your private mileage with the Elfer? Quite a lot! After all, our 911 Carrera 4 Cabrio already boasts a classic colour scheme: black metallic with light brown leather upholstery. Furthermore, the neatly groomed Porsche is nicely complete: heated sports seats, a sports exhaust, PSM, Cruise Control, xenon lights and a Bose audio system are included, for example. However, whether the latter also manages to surpass the characteristic 6-cylinder boxer roar sound-wise… To ask the question is to answer it! Incidentally, this is the facelift version: the 996.2. Connoisseurs equate this with an upgraded engine capacity of 3.6 litres. Good for 320 hp distributed over four wheels…

The vehicle in detail

Exterior
With the introduction of the 996 in 1997, Porsche broke with many 911 traditions. The bodywork was rounder, more graceful, more cuddly than before. The round headlight units were henceforth fused with the indicators, and the rear lights lacked the connecting intermediate piece. This was not an evolution, but a revolution! The 996 became very successful, partly because the model managed to appeal to a completely new group of buyers because of its more mundane, less spartan look. At the same time, Porsche was struggling with a club of hardcore enthusiasts who actually longed for the familiar Elfer characteristics. The Porsche 996.2 – say the 2.0 version of this generation 911, catered to both groups. The teardrop-shaped (in this case xenon) headlights returned (for the most part) and the connecting bar between the units at the rear also made a comeback, albeit on the faster 4S version. And precisely that 4S version, from which the optional sports exhausts on this one are derived! Swathed in a Basalt Black metallic suit, the classic 18-inch 5-spoke Carrera wheels stand out perfectly. The silver brake calipers also contrast particularly well with the rest. A real keeper, this Carrera 4 Convertible!

Interior
The reason for disappearing the black soft-top behind the seats is of course the extra open driving dimension of a 911 Cabriolet. This stylish Porsche 996 adds a very pleasingly eye-catching interior. The light brown leather on seats, steering wheel, dashboard and door panels is not alone, as the A-pillars, entire tunnel console and even the carpets have a light brown finish. Exceptions are the black mats and all kinds of controls. For its part, the gear lever is both brown and silver; fits nicely with the high-tech nature of the then Tiptronic transmission. Under the brown leather cover of the instrument panel are analogue counters and gauges. What a relief in this digital age! True to Porsche tradition, they partially overlap and the tachometer occupies a prominent position. Incidentally, what better way to enjoy this than from full-leather sports seats?

Options & extras
When the sports seats also turn out to be heated, we can’t help but conclude that the 996.2 Carrera 4 Cabriolet is made for spending many, many moments behind the wheel. Cruise control, a Bose audio and xenon headlights actually indicate even more comfortable mileage. The sports exhaust combined with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) actually link to impressive performance. Well, why should one rule out the other?

Technology & performance
With the key left in the ignition, this is unmistakably a real Elfer from the start. And that’s how it sounds too! The 3.6-litre (formerly 3.4) large 6-cylinder boxer engine sounds nice and raw and offers 20 hp + 20 Nm extra compared to the non-facelift model. In total, the 911 Cabrio uses 320 hp and 370 Nm of torque to whip off the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds. The 5-speed Tiptronic automatic does its job smoothly and is capable of clocking a top speed of 280 km/h. All-wheel drive and PSM technology combine to provide loads of grip and stability. This Porsche doesn’t let itself go crazy. You, on the other hand…

Kind regards,
team Prins.
