Design & equipment
The 996 Carrera 4S comes closer to a Turbo in appearance than any other Elfer. Wheels in size 18 inches (Turbo design), bumpers, sideskirts and even the exhausts are copied directly from the blown 911. The typical Turbo rear spoiler is missing, but that is also taste-sensitive. Instead, the 4S distinguishes itself with a red band between the taillights; it revives old times, very nice! The equipment is also something to get excited about. Hold on tight: automatic air conditioning, electrically adjustable and heatable door mirrors, sound package, rear alloy wheels: 8×18 11×18 (Turbo Look II Wheel), metallic paint, Porsche Stability Management (PSM), traction control, seat upholstery cushions: leather, rear window wiper, Bi-xenon headlights including headlamp washers, Porsche Communications Management (PCM), CD changer, Driving Assistant System Parking Assist, electric sunroof, seat heating on both front seats, leather 3-spoke sports steering wheel, alcantara headliner, windshield with Band Filter above and Class 5 alarm (LoJack). The dashboard and center console are fully black; no glitter edges, no white gauges. The leather seat upholstery is also black; in short, everything is sleek black: in this Porsche you are as comfortable as you are sporty!
Technique
This manual (!) Porsche 996.2 is a cautious evolution of the 996.1, but no less apt for that. Under the skin, the facelift version made good progress, optically the modified headlight units and bumpers are particularly striking. Top versions such as this Carrera 4S and also the Turbo (S) were delivered purely in this new look. Indeed, the Turbo was the basis of the facelift! In 4S trim, the 996 delivers an impressive 320HP. The 3.6 liter 6-cylinder boxer engine thus needs just over 5 seconds to complete the 0-100 km h sprint. Top speed is at 280 km h. And believe me: that is not only fast, it feels fast. The experience of such a 996 is very underrated, while the quality is many times higher than its predecessor(s). Sounds like the ideal sports car, doesn’t it?
