Porsche 911 996 MK1 GT3 Clubsport in Ferrari yellow - The holy grail of the 996 GT3 series

All good things come in threes, namely - the number three in GT3, - 003 for Clubsport, - and the 3 speed yellow GT3 CS in our hall,

although, wait a minute...

The vehicle in detail

...the front GT3 doesn't seem to be in speed yellow?

How now? Does it have a film on it or has it been repainted or is it just a bit of Photoshop?

Three times no would be a fitting answer here...

...and even more appropriately add the following three letters - PTS

Which stands for "Paint to Sample" and translates as "color of your choice".

Or in this case even PTS+, because this color was not even selectable at the time, but a special request...

Dear Porsche enthusiast, you have probably already understood it and if not, we will be happy to help you a little:

This is probably the ONLY 996 GT3 that has received the color A12 yellow ex works, via the code L998, which stands for special order of an earlier color, which was felt to be 1 to 1 the Ferrari yellow, which could no longer be called that due to licensing rights, as it was still possible in 964 times, where there was also a 964RS in Ferrari yellow, for example, via the code L998!

Have you always wanted a 911 that nobody else has?

A real one of one?

Here it is! And with the special color alone, it doesn't end here....

...because it's also a 003 works Clubsport, as well as one with the air conditioning removed, and it's also a GT3 from the first 350-unit series.
It could hardly be better!

That doesn't mean anything to you? Then take us back a quarter of a century to the beginnings of GT3 history, when Porsche decided to invest in the upcoming GT3 series despite the financial bottleneck at the time and thus create a vehicle including a homologation model.

The idea was to produce only around 350 units, which were needed for homologation. There is also often talk of 1350 units - and this is certainly a matter of debate - but it is known that after the first 350 there was a short break in production...

...because, as mentioned, only 350 units were planned and so, despite the water cooling, Porsche used tried and tested racing technology and put together a vehicle that, in retrospect, could not have been made any better. Due to this initially planned low number of units, the company did not go to the trouble of developing a new engine that was also suitable for America in terms of emission values. As a result, the 996 GT3 never came to the USA as an MK1 and is therefore a hot candidate as an investment for the Americans today, some 25 years later, as it can now be imported there with impunity (even without new Trump tariffs, as it is over 25 years old).

Back to the technology - the 996 GT3 MK1 all received the proven Mezger engine block (crankcase) from the 964RS, which was later used in the 993RS, as well as the 996 GT1 racing car. That's why the part number of this component still starts with 964.101.... instead of a special 996 number, which only came with the MK2.

But let's go further - As it was thought that only a small series of GT3s would be built, all 996 GT3s were assembled by hand in Weissach. Today it is unimaginable that the production cars are assembled in Porsche's development department. Even the brand new 992 GT3s, which also have the optional Weissach package, are not even assembled at Weissach, but on the normal production line with the other production cars.

After the first 350 units, Weissach took a break because the development of the first water-cooled 911 Turbo required the engineers' full attention. However, the demand for the GT3 was so high that the decision was made to produce more after a short break. A total of 1,868 units were produced, which is still almost nothing by today's standards.

Due to the short production break, however, there were also differences in the production processes. For example, the first 350 units from 1999 are not quite the same as the remaining GT3s. We have already noticed this in the differently painted front nose on the underbody, which is painted on the first 350 units and not on the others, as well as the omission of the temperature sensor, etc. And since this vehicle is a special color request anyway, certain factors are different here - it was not only assembled by hand, but probably also painted by hand...

...how beautiful the 90s were - all 996 GT3s are special in one way or another, either because of the pure handwork in Weissach, or because of the GT1 Mezger engine block and the 993 GT2 gearbox.

The wheat is separated from the chaff in the Clubsport - this is where the special feature begins...

...because the Clubsport can be regarded as the RS version of the GT3, as this was not available for the MK1.

There is often talk of 500 units, even though there will probably be fewer, making it even rarer in terms of numbers than the successor 996.2 GT3 RS with 682 units.

GT3s are often mistakenly referred to as Clubsport simply because they have a roll bar and bucket seats.

However, ONLY GT3s with the code 003 are referred to as factory Clubsport.

Code 003 stands internally for " 911 Carrera RS Clubsport " version and includes the following ex works:

- No side airbags in the doors (but reinforced doors)
- A single mass flywheel
- SCHROTH racing harnesses and a fire extinguisher
- Passenger compartment bolted to the front
- Bucket seats with fire-retardant seat covers made of special fabric
- Emergency switch loop on the outside of the hood and inside as a push button
- And all this ex works and not retrofitted

A Clubsport can be compared with the earlier NGT versions of the 964RS and 993RS and today's GT3 RS versions with Weissach packages.

For these reasons, the FIRST GT3 as a Clubsport version is for many the true RS successor to the 993RS, especially as the MK1 was the first production car to conquer the Nürburgring in under 8 minutes thanks to Walter Röhrl, who was a Porsche test driver at the time.

And as if the 996 GT3 wasn't already special enough as a club sport, we are now looking at one in Ferrari-like yellow, probably the ONLY one in the world. And we go even further, probably even the only factory Clubsport in a special color, because most people simply wanted to have a Clubsport right away so that they could drive trackdays at the weekend and not wait any longer for a special color production.

The color difference probably doesn't come across as well in the pictures as it does in real life, even though we tried as hard as we could with the pictures, also thanks to the other two GT3's in speed yellow. In real life, the yellow really shines and when you put it next to a speed yellow, it's worlds apart - the speed yellow is much more of a mustard color, while the A12 yellow looks like a lemon yellow.

But it's best to look at it in real life - but be careful!
This GT3 is an absolute addiction 😉

For these reasons, we are pleased to be able to offer you this absolutely unique GT3 Clubsport in "Ferrari yellow".
