The History of the Porsche 996 GT3 RS
The 996 brought major changes compared to the previous 911: it was the first to be equipped with a water-cooled engine as well as a four-valve per cylinder distribution, with a completely redesigned exterior line and passenger compartment and a higher level of comfort. In light of these excessive innovations, it must be said that the purists considered it a totally new model and not a further step in the evolution of the 911, loudly contesting the rather showy “fried egg” front lights that it supplanted for the first time the typical round headlight of the 911 and the Targa.
The Stuttgart company, not insensitive to this common discontent, implemented an intermediate restyling anticipated by the Turbo version, reduced the shape of the headlight to come back with the 997 model to the typical configuration of the front in compliance with the Porsche tradition.
