The vehicle in detail

Many of those who have sampled each of the U.S.-specification 911 GT3s from the very first contend that the 997.2-generation GT3 is a Goldilocks of sorts among them. It may not be commonplace to compare special GT variants of the Porsche 911 to a 19th century fictional character, but the connection between the two, the search for what is “just right,” is an apt one. Many prefer the 997’s traditional headlights, muscular body, centerlock wheels, and additional engine grunt (435 horsepower) to the previous 996.2-generation GT3’s svelte flanks and 3.6-liter engine. On the other end, while the 991.1-generation gained more power and outright speed, it came at the cost of rarity, additional weight, and analog feel. With time, it’s become clearer that the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 is truly the perfect blend of size, shape, and power.

Finished in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen in November 2009, this 2010 GT3 is one of just 657 destined for the United States that year. Sold by Winner Porsche of Newark, Delaware (now Porsche Delaware), this particular example was optioned in the rarest color offered, Aqua Blue Metallic, one of just 16 so selected, over Black leather sport bucket seats. It was additionally optioned with a few well-chosen extras including dynamic engine mounts, Sport Chrono package, and footrest in aluminum. According to its clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, Winner Porsche sold this GT3 once again in October of 2011 with just 62 miles to its current caretaker. While this GT3 features quite the sporting specification and could have been used as a daily driver or track weapon like many 911s from its era, it has just over 6,000 well-cared for miles at the time of cataloging, nearly all of which are from its second owner. Service records on file and available for review show a consistent service history at Dougherty Automotive Services dating back to 2011. Most recently, this GT3 visited Dougherty Automotive Services in November of 2022 for an oil change with a fuel injector clean and additional servicing.

As recently as four years ago the 997.2-generation GT3 entered “Porsche Classic” status. To those who recall its launch in Geneva in 2009 with fondness and see a classic Porsche as a 356 Carrera or an early 911, this may seem odd. Yet the 997.2-generation GT3 is without modern features like active-aerodynamics, stability control, and dual-clutch transmissions that, while derived from racing, can mask the purity of its driving dynamics. Yet, the car remains a modern water-cooled 911 with all the expected conveniences like air conditioning, power steering, power windows, huge brakes, and the right amount of power from its race-derived 3.8-liter flat-six. Therein lies its Goldilocks charm. This example, finished in rare Aqua Blue Metallic, with low-miles, long-term ownership, and a clean DME report may be the perfect fit for those in search of a classic 911 GT3 that provides modern elements, rarity, and an unfettered connection between driver and car.
