General:
Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is expanding its range with another member of the 911 family. The new GT3 Cup S is based on the GT3 RS road sports car, but is designed exclusively for racing purposes. The vehicle, developed and built in Weissach, is used in international championships that are held in accordance with the FIA GT3 regulations.
The 3.6-liter boxer engine is largely identical to the engine used in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and the international Carrera Cups. However, the power output has been increased by 20 to 440 hp (324 kW) at 8,000 rpm. Maximum torque has increased by ten to 430 Nm at 7,250 rpm. The increase in power is the result of optimized engine management and a modified exhaust system.
In contrast to the GT3 Cup, the body of the Cup S is not based on the GT3 road model, but on the GT3 RS. This means that significantly larger wheels can be accommodated under the wider fenders. At the front, 10.5-inch-wide rims are now used, while the rear tires are mounted on 12-inch-wide rims. The front section and the fenders also differ significantly from the components fitted to the GT3 Cup. An adjustable front splitter provides more downforce on the front axle. The rear wing is wider and positioned higher than on the Cup version and therefore also provides increased downforce on the rear axle.
A number of chassis components in the GT3 Cup S come from the more powerful GT3 RSR, which competes in the GT2 class in international endurance races. The braking system has been adapted to the increased engine power compared to the GT3 Cup. The diameter of the brake discs on the rear axle has been increased by five millimetres to 355 millimetres.
